| The
Sun is the largest object in this solar
system and contains 99.8% of the total
mass. Classified as a G2 type stars, it
is the most common type out of over 100
billion stars in our galaxy. The next
closest star is Proxima Centauri which is
4.3 light years from Earth. The sun is
the most important star because it
supports life on Earth. At about 4.5
billion years old, our sun is about
midway through its life cycle and will
radiate for about another 4 billion years.
In that time, the output will double
while the sun becomes a red giant star
thus engulfing both Mercury, Venus, and
quite possibly Earth as well. After this
time, this solar system could become a
nebula. |
